Qualifications

 

The Security WSQ qualifications are offered at three levels:  operations, supervisory and managerial.



 

The 4 different qualifications are targeted at 4 occupational levels of the security workforce:

 

·         Certificate in Security Operations for the security officer,

·         Higher Certificate in Armed Security for the auxiliary police officer,

·         Advanced Certificate in Security Supervision for the security supervisor, and

·         Diploma in Security Management for the chief security manager, operations executive/manager and the security manager

 

Each qualification reflects the acquisition of competencies and forms the basis of career-based training and upgrading pathways as well as skills recognition.   

 

The qualifications are made up of 2 groups – Core and Elective Units.

 

  1. Core Units – Refers to basic skills required by employees in order to undertake the primary job functions or meet regulatory licensing requirements. 

 

  1. Elective Units – Refers to either vocational skills required by employees to be competent in performing certain aspects of the jobs or generic skills that will help employees in the course of work.

 

Learners desiring to obtain a Security WSQ qualification may:

 

a.                  Undertake relevant training in individual modules to meet licensing requirements to work in the security industry;

b.                  Choose to take a collection of modules relevant to their needs; or

c.                  Complete all the modules required to gain the relevant Security WSQ qualification

 

A Statement of Attainment (SOA) will be awarded to a learner when he successfully completed each Security WSQ competency module.

These training providers (clicked here) have been accredited by WDA to conducted Security WSQ courses, Employability Skills System courses and Service Excellence WSQ courses respectively.  You may contact these training providers for specific details of the courses that they will be conducting.

 

The Security Industry Institute (SII) is a collaboration between WDA and Temasek Polytechnic.  The SII will facilitate job seekers and existing security officers in the industry to acquire and upgrade their skills.  Besides offering courses under Security WSQ at a subsidised rate, the Security Industry Institute will also house a career centre that will provide career counseling, job screening and placement services for individuals seeking career opportunities in the industry.

 

The SII will provide programmes for the security operations (unarmed). They provide certificate, advance certificate and Diploma programmes for the security industry.  The programmes will commence in September 2007. Courses will be carried out in TP existing premises for the time being.
