Getting the skills for the Security Industry

The private security industry is an industry of paramount importance in ensuring the safety of our nation’s infrastructure and economic well-being.  This is all the more highlighted by the recent threats in terrorism and the high level of security required as Singapore hosts several international events such as the World Bank and International Monetary Fund meetings in 2006.  There is a dire need to upgrade the private security industry. The Security Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) was developed with the aim to enhance the overall standard and professionalising the private security industry.

The Security WSQ is spearheaded by the Security Industry Skills and Training Council (ISTC).  Comprising security industry leaders, associations, government agencies, union representatives and training providers, the Security ISTC leverage on the members’ resources, expertise and experience to establish skills profile and gaps and develop a systematic skills upgrading and skills certification system to enhance professionalism and the career pathways for the security workforce.
