Skills Needed in the Precision Engineering Industry

 

The skills needed in the precision engineering industry have been drawn up by the Precision Engineering Industry Skills and Training Council (PE ISTC) comprising industry representatives, industry associations, government economic agencies and key training providers.

 

The PE ISTC validated and endorsed the competencies needed for  focused and specific developement in the PE industry.

 

PE WSQ covers three PE sub-sectors - Tool & Die Manufacturing, Component Manufacturing, and Machinery & Equipment.  The skills components which make up PE WSQ are:

§         Generic manufacturing skills that is applicable across all manufacturing industries

o        Workplace Safety and Health Policy

o        Quality System

o        Teamwork in the Workplace

o        Continuous Improvement Processes

 

§       PE manufacturing skills that are specific to the PE industry
   o        Conceptual Engineering
   o        Manufacturing and Production
   o        Maintenance and Servicing
   o        Die and Mold Tool Making
   o        Buying & Procurement
   o        Sales and Marketing
